Attorney Steven I. Fried focuses his legal practice on helping the thousands of 9/11 victims and their families suffering from illnesses following the tragic events of September 11, 2001 and the subsequent cleanup efforts.
Steven graduated from The George Washington University in 1989 and Brooklyn Law School in 1992. Prior to the formation of Kreindler•Fried, he led his Manhattan-based personal injury firm for over 30 years. He has successfully represented injured clients in all aspects of negligence cases including construction, premises and motor vehicle accidents, as well as medical malpractice.
Attorney Noah Kushlefsky has advocated on behalf of 9/11 victims and their families for more than 20 years. He has been described by the VCF's first special master Sheila Birnbaum as being influential in the wake of 9/11 with the development of the methodology for the original Victim Compensation Fund, also known as VCF1.
To date, Noah has helped recover over $4 billion for victims of the terror attacks and those killed or injured during the rescue and recovery at Ground Zero.
For years following 9/11, numerous forms of respiratory illnesses, digestive disorders and cancers, have been on the rise for people exposed to the air below Canal Street in the months following September 11, 2001. When people saw their doctors for a persistent cough or trouble breathing, their diagnoses – and the expensive treatments – may have come as a surprise. For many, a connection to the 9/11 attacks never even occurred to them.
The 2001 collapse of the twin towers produced a noxious fog of burning plastic, asbestos, fiberglass and jet fuel. This foul, carcinogenic mixture was inhaled not just by 9/11 responders, but by up to half a million people who lived in, worked in, attended school in or visited lower Manhattan in the ten months following September 11, 2001.
There are two similar, but slightly different areas to consider when determining your eligibility for free healthcare and medical monitoring from the WTCHP or financial compensation from the VCF. Generally, the NYC Exposure Zone for the VCF is limited to the area south of Canal Street, however the exposure zone for WTCHP eligibility includes several blocks to the north of Canal Street. The NYC Exposure Zone for the WTCHP is the area south of Houston Street. And the WTCHP exposure zone includes bridges and a small portion of Brooklyn.
